ROHNERT PARK, California – In the final tune-up before next week’s Pacific West Conference Championships, Keith Ng had his best outing of the season to help lead the UH-Hilo men’s golf team to a third place finish at the NCAA West Regional Spring Preview at the Foxtail Golf Club hosted by Sonoma State.
Ng finished the two-round first day at a three-way tie for first place but completed the event shooting four-under to slot in at a No. 4 placement.
Freshman Junsu Im followed with a top-20 finish at a tie for 14th after finishing one-over.
Dustin Franko climbed 28 spots, rebounding from a Round 2 score of 78 to shoot two-under par and end on a plus-five finish for a tie at No. 32.
Cal State San Marcos’ Matthew Pennington and Western Washington’s Jordan Lee shared the individual crown with eight-under finishes.
San Marcos also took the team title with an 11-under total as Sonoma State followed as runner-up with a minus-one total. The Vulcans slotted in at No. 3 with a plus-two score.
Of the 21-team field, UH-Hilo also finished ahead of fellow PacWest competitors Holy Names (No. 10), HPU (No. T-16), Dominican (No. T-16) and Academy of Art (No. T-18).
UH-Hilo will compete in next week’s PacWest Championships set for April 17–19 in Litchfield Park, Arizona.
